Empty your Cup!

Empty your Cup!

Empty your Cup!

We have all heard the phrase “empty your cup”.

While it implies maintaining an open minded approach to training, not limiting ourselves to one way, often we take it to mean that we have to throw away or discard something, allowing us to take on board something new or different.

This may well be the case, particularly if we are talking about a misguided or erroneous belief system, or an impractical skill base. But this it not the whole picture.

For me, the call to “empty my cup” means that I have to absorb, take on board the information, develop the skill. I have to “drink” from the cup as it is only when I have consumed its contents that I can refill!

We make it our own before moving on - refilling our cup! And we keep doing this, we don’t rush, refill after refill we take our time to really engage and absorb - we learn! Building on what has been ingrained from our previous experience.
