Age uke, gyakuzuki

Age-uke, often called the upper or pressing block, is a versatile and powerful close-range striking technique in martial arts. This technique primarily utilises the forearm as the main striking tool, making it highly effective in close combat situations. Beyond its striking capabilities, age-uke also serves a strategic purpose by allowing the practitioner to gain control over the opponent’s attacking limb. This control can be crucial in redirecting the opponent’s force and creating opportunities for counterattacks. One such counterattack is the gyaku-zuki, a reverse punch aimed at the opponent’s mid-section, which can be executed more effectively once the opponent’s limb is controlled. The combination of blocking and striking in age-uke makes it a valuable skill for both defence and offence in martial arts.
