Tai Chi

At the Karate Academy, we practice Tai Chi as taught by the Shi Kon Martial Arts International under the auspices of Sifu Steve Rowe. Classes include nei gong (meditation), chi gong (energy exercises), an introductory short form (Grasp Sparrows Tail), and culminating in the Yang Chen Fu 108 form.


Our nei gong practice introduces the student to the standing postures and meditation of Tai Chi. Nei gong calms the mind and softens the body helping to reduce tension.

The chi gong sequences offer gentle, low impact “energy exercises”. These exercises help to increase vitality, mobility, circulation, balance and coordination.

We practice two forms; a specialised short form which introduces the practitioner to the basic movements of Tai Chi (the “Grasp Sparrows Tail” form) and the Yang Chen Fu form. The Yang Chen Fu form is broken down into 3 shorter forms to aid learning.

Regular Tai Chi practice can have a huge positive impact on conditions such as:
